BLACKBURN Rovers will make few bigger signings than Chris Samba's contract extension this season.

The giant defender must go down as one of the bargains in Premier League history, arriving from Hertha Berlin for £400,000, and is now tied to Rovers until 2014.

The new deal will not guarantee Samba's place in East Lancashire for the next four and a bit years but what it will do is make sure any suitor would have to pay significant money for him.

Samba was a key figure in keeping Rovers up last season and, along with David Dunn, is the man generally looked to for inspiration when things aren't going Rovers' way.

In today's world of inflated transfer fees, it is hard to put a figure on Samba's worth.
