ACCRINGTON Stanley supporters have said they would be interested in forming a fans’ trust following Ilyas Khan’s donation of his shares.

Khan, who owned 12 per cent of the club, donated his shares to Accrington Stanley Supporters’ Fund with a request it joins with other fan groups, creating a fan-based trust to play a part in the club’s future.

Chairman of Accrington Stanley Supporters’ Fund Peter Shaw said it was ‘early days’ but that they and Accrington Stanley Official Supporters’ Club were in favour of forming a fans’ trust.

He said: “It is a very generous offer which could help create a more community based club.

"Knowing Ilyas as I do I would expect nothing less as he cares passionately about the club.”

ASSF member Stephen Lowe said: “If the fans can have a say and never again have to pick up the paper to see that the club is only weeks or months from extinction, then that can only be a good thing.”

Supporters’ Club chairman Rob Russell added: “It’s an ideal opportunity to create an alliance of supporters’ clubs to move forward as one.”
