GRAHAM Alexander hasn’t yet featured in a Burnley-Blackburn encounter – but the veteran performer is well aware of the rivalry between the two clubs having spent over a decade plying his trade in Lancashire.

The 38-year-old is relishing the Ewood Park clash as the Clarets look to end a run of four successive away Premier League defeats and earn local bragging rights in the process.

The intensity between the clubs may come as a surprise to one or two players when they kick off next Sunday afternoon.

Yet Alexander, who spent over eight years at Preston North End, fully knows what to expect.

“There’s not that many miles between quite a number of clubs in the North West,” said the Scotland international.

“I’ve been in this region long enough – 10 years – to realise that these fixtures are a big thing for these clubs and their fans.

“It’s been a while since Burnley played Blackburn on an even level, so it’s one that everyone is looking forward to.

“I’ve not been involved in one before, but I’ve heard a lot of what it’s about.

“It should be a good game and hopefully we will get the three points and push ourselves up that table.”

But Alexander, the oldest outfield player in the Premier League, is not expecting an easy ride in the centre of the park.

He added: “Maybe I won’t have much time on the ball.

“But these are the sort of games you love playing in and we’re looking forward to it.”
