Clitheroe entertain Belper Town from the Unibond First Division South in the FA Trophy and boss Peter Smith admits he knows little about the make-up of the Derbyshire outfit.

“Obviously I’m aware of their results and that they are seventh in the table but I don’t know a lot of their players.

“The fact that they play at the same level as us though does give me some clues.

"As with all teams in the top half of the table, they will be a solid outfit and we will have to be on our guard and hopefully make home advantage count.”

Smith was encouraged by his goalscorers who helped Clitheroe to a midweek 4-3 win over AFC Fylde in the Lancs Challenge Cup but more critical of his defenders.

He said: “We have to learn very quickly that we cannot keep giving poor goals away.

“We are always capable of scoring goals – I think we have only failed to get on the scoresheet once this season – but our defenders have got to stop conceding silly ones.

“We gave Curzon Ashton two or three last week and we were responsible for all three of Fylde’s goals the other night.

"Thankfully we were able to score four in that game.”

Smith will wait for a late test on Jason Jones before he selects his side, admitting the player’s chances of playing are 50/50 but Marcus Calvert definitely misses the tie because of a groin strain.
