NELSON slipped to a 3-0 defeat but it could have been a a different story had they converted one of their early chances.
In was real end-to-end stuff in the opening 15 minutes when either side could have scored.
Nelson keeper Chris Thompson pulled off a fine first minute save before Sam Heap had an effort cleared off the line at the other end just a minute later.
Mills then squandered their next chance and Ashley Higgins did likewise for Nelson, screwing wide of the target after good work from Heap.
But New Mills took the lead on the half hour through captain Carlos Meakin then went 2-0 up through Cayne Handley.
The home side wrapped up victory in the second half injury time when the unmarked Garry Kharas tapped in from close range.
