BURNLEY-BORN midfielder Adnan Ahmed has joined Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros on a two-year deal.

Central midfielder Ahmed, 25, saw his contract at Tranmere Rovers expire and not renewed, and was snapped up by the Budapest club a fortnight ago.

He made his debut in a 4-1 win at home to Zalaegerszeg and was voted man of the match.

He then featured in the 3-1 loss at Nyiregyhaza last weekend, and is delighted to be making regular starts at his new club.

Ferencvaros have been regular participants in the UEFA Cup over the past decade, and qualified for the Champions League in 1995/96. They boast attendances of up to 18,000, and Ahmed’s efforts have already seen the team’s partisan support warm to their new signing.

“The crowd are unbelievably passionate, to say the least,” said Majid, Adnan’s brother. “I went over for the first game, Adnan did really well, picked up the man of the match award and the fans really took to him. They’re absolutely mad, really fanatical.

“So far he’s settled in well.

“They’ve got a lot of internationals, and a squad of about 35 to 40 players.

“It’s a good opportunity, and if all goes well you never know he could be playing Champions League football in a year’s time if they qualify.

“They’re the biggest club in Hungary, and on Hungarian television literally every week.”

The former Manchester United Academy player represents Pakistan at international level, and has so far impressed at the Hungarian outfit’s English manager Bobby Davison.

Former Blackburn Rovers centre back Craig Short is assistant manager at the club, who are back in Hungary’s top division following financial problems.
