LARS Jacobsen may be re-starting his Premier League dream as a relative unknown among the Ewood Park faithful – but the Dane himself admits the East Lancashire surroundings won’t come as a complete surprise.

The Danish international arrived at Ewood Park this summer from Everton looking to finally start his Premier League adventure, after a nightmare top flight bow, already well aware of the ‘top class set up’ at Blackburn Rovers.

Jacobsen was invited for a trial at Ewood Park last summer by previous boss Paul Ince but, due to a delay in making the journey, Rovers snapped up Danny Simpson on loan from Manchester United instead.

The 29-year-old still spent two days at Brockhall on trial after Simpson’s arrival but it was a case of going through the motions with the right back slot already filled by Simpson.

He said: “I was only here for two days and it was not to be. It did not work out and I ended up signing a one-year deal with Everton.

“I am glad to be given the chance again and I am looking forward to the season ahead.

“I know how good the facilities are at Blackburn.

“I saw that before and now I am looking to work hard and play football.”

After signing from FC Nuremburg for Everton last August on a free transfer, a dislocated shoulder saw him struggle to make any sort of impact in his first season in English football.

He was forced to wait until March to make his league debut for the Goodison Park outfit, although was brought on as a second half substitute in their FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Jacobsen though, who has made 22 appearances for his country, is now determined to banish the memories of the last 10 months by proving he has the ability to make the Premier League grade.

He said: “I started in a poor way last season.

“Before we even started the season I dislocated my shoulder and so was off the pitch for about half a year. It wasn’t the start I had dreamed of.

“I am happy to be fit again and to be doing the pre-season without injuries. I am really looking forward to August 15.

“It is really the start of the Premier League adventure for me. It was a weird season and was all about getting back from the injury.

“I struggled with fitness and getting back, it was a nightmare start. It is a new beginning and I am really looking forward to it.”

Andre Ooijer’s return to Holland with PSV Eindhoven and Danny Simpson’s return to Manchester United has left Jacobsen the only recognised right back in the senior ranks.

But with the versatile Brett Emerton and Keith Andrews both showing themselves more than adept in that role as well, he knows the fight for places is well and truly on.

He said; “We have some very talented players and the competition is always big in the Premier League team. So it should be and I can’t wait for the new season and showing I can play in the Premier League.”
