RECORD signing Steven Fletcher is pumped up for the Premier League after scoring his first Burnley goals.

The Clarets’ £3million man struck twice as Owen Coyle’s newly promoted side beat League Two Morecambe in the second of eight confirmed friendlies, before flying out for their pre-season tour of America on Thursday.

While Fletcher, one of five new arrivals to date, has had no problem settling into life at Turf Moor following his move from Scottish Premier League side Hibernian less than three weeks ago, he admitted it was a relief to get off the mark so early.

“It was good to get the first win under our belt and for myself to get the first goals,” said the 22-year-old, who made his Burnley bow in last Saturday’s opening friendly defeat at Bradford City.

“The main aim of pre-season is to get fit and if the goals come the goals come. But it’s good to get the first one out of the way to go into the next game, especially after a hard pre-season last year.”

And even at this early stage, Fletcher is pleased with the way he is working with his new team-mates, particularly fellow front man Martin Paterson.

The Scotland international and last season’s top scorer are already showing the hallmarks of a positive partnership, and combined as Paterson opened the scoring at Christie Park on Tuesday night, with Fletcher slipping a well-weighted square ball into his team-mate’s path.

The favour was returned as Fletcher doubled Burnley’s lead, before adding the third early in the second half.

Of his first, Fletcher said: “It was a great ball from Pato that I took in my stride. I didn’t have to do much when he played the ball through, so I just put it away.

“It’s been good in training too. I’ve been working in five-a-sides and linking up with people.

“The way the team plays is great for me to come in short and get the ball and pass it about, and as you’ve seen with Pato it’s been good so far, so hopefully that continues.”

The strike duo will be looking to add to their pre-season tally when Burnley play their first of two confirmed friendlies in America against Ventura County Fusion on Tuesday (kick-off 7pm local time), while the club is close to confirming a behind closed doors game against LA Galaxy on Wednesday before flying to Portland the following day to prepare for a friendly with Portland Timbers next Saturday.
