STEVE Brunt is hoping his Burnley 20/20 experts can go one step beyond their norm when they face Nelson in tonight’s showpiece final.

But Brunt is well aware of the obstacle posed by the Seedhillites and expects a major battle when the sides lock horns at Turf Moor (6.15pm).

Burnley have a formidable record in the competition, although they have never actually won it and Brunt wants to address that after two finals and a semi-final in the last three years.

“We seem to do quite well in the 20/20 but we would love to win it,” said Brunt.

“It will be a great night with a real party atmosphere and a big crowd – and we want to win the match.”

Burnley and Nelson are familiar foes and both progressed to the knock-out stage from a keenly contested Group C.

Nelson won their group meeting and with professional Robin Peterson bang in form enter tonight’s final as slight favourites.

“They are a good team,” said Brunt. “They beat us in the groups but that game is gone now and we have to go out and give it our best.

“We play well in the 20/20 as our record over the last few years shows and we are confident going into the game.”

For Nelson, fast bowler Sam Halstead returns to the side and Khurram Nazir’s men are at full strength with plenty of support for the brilliant Peterson, who has revitalised the Seedhillites since he arrived following the conclusion of the ICC World Twenty20.

And his battle with Burnley’s Jeeva Kulatunga is likely to be key Peterson boasts the best bowling figures in the competition this season after claiming 4-7 from his four overs in the group game with Todmorden, while Kulatunga has been a key performer for Burnley on their run to the final.

And Brunt’s men are boosted ahead of the game by the return to the 20/20 side of brilliant batsman Vishal Tripathi, who missed last week’s delayed semi-final win over Church.
