ROBBIE Williams is resigned to the fact that his 10-year Accrington Stanley career is over - regardless of the verdict at his FA betting hearing.

The 30-year-old defender was due to be given a testimonial in the near future after completing 10 years at the Crown Ground since signing from Liverpool amateur side St Dominics in the summer of 1999.

But both Williams and Stanley team-mate Peter Cavanagh were charged by the FA in April with betting against the Reds ahead of a game with Bury in 2008.

Both have denied the charges but Cavanagh is back in training and will pen a new contract if found not guilty, while Williams has opted not to return.

He said: “They never offered me a new contract so that’s why I’m not training. It’s about my security really.

“There are obviously a few things going on with the FA hearing, so I could understand if that was the reason but they’ve never rung me.

“It looks like I’ve been released and I can’t see anything happening now.

“I’ve got to look after myself, so I’m keeping my options open.

“I am supposed to be training with another club from next week.”

Williams and Cavanagh are currently scheduled for FA hearings on August 7, although it is possible that verdicts will not be received until the following week - after Stanley’s first game of the season.
