ACCRINGTON golf ace Nikki Foster is continuing to enjoy a sensational 2009 after winning the Lancashire Girls Championship for a third successive year.
The 17-year-old Pleasington member mastered gale-force conditions at Blackpool North Shore on Sunday to defend her title by three shots.
It is the latest triumph for Foster – daughter of former Lancashire golfer Trevor Foster – and she has now set her sights on further glory this summer.
She is part of the England girls team that contests the Home International Champi-onships in Fairhaven on August 4-6.
“Getting selected for England is what I wanted,” she said. “I’ve been picked by England ever since I was 12.”
Foster, a full-time golfer, has reduced her three handicap to scratch this year, and has produced a string of superb results.
She came 10th at the Welsh Ladies Open, 11th at the prestigious St Rule Trophy at St Andrews, and has qualified for this year’s British Ladies and English Ladies Championships.
“I’ve done well because I can concentrate on playing golf,” said Foster, whose dream is to turn professional in her early twenties and compete on the Women’s European Tour.
“If I had gone to college, I would not have been able to give it 100 per cent.
“I just love playing golf all the time.”
