TALENTED young golfer Harris Ali‘s secret is out in the Open - he’s won his first major golf competition!

The Accrington Academy student beat a strong field to win the recent Wilpshire Junior Golf Open.

The 14-year-old, playing off an handicap of 20, finished with a nett score of 58 on the par 68 course to take the title. He was up against more than 50 other youngsters where some of them were as old at 18.

Now dad Purvis believes it could be the first of many titles for young Harris who is a member of Accrington Golf Club.

“Harris is a very good footballer but he has shown something of a natural talent for golf ever since he took it up,” said Purvis.

“His coach at Accrington, Mark Harling, has worked hard with him and I am delighted to see him win this first title. I am sure he can win a lot more.”

As well as picking up his inaugural major competition, Harris has also won a number of junior events at Accrington Golf Club.

And last year, he reached the final of Tiger Hunt, a competition to find a star of the future, held at PlayGolf Manchester.

He was one of 66 youngsters who were picked to attend a four week ‘boot camp’ with the Playgolf professional then made it through to the final 13 before narrowly missing out on glory.
