AMIR Khan is hoping to lend his support to a boxing event in Blackburn next week - just days after fighting for a his first world title.

The Bolton-born boxer takes on Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA lightweight title at the MEN on Saturday.

And on Friday, July 24 he is aiming to be at King George’s Hall to watch the Blackburn with Darwen Boxing Academy take on a Royal Air Force Select.

The boxing festival is part of the Celebrate Blackburn series.

Khan and his coach Freddie Roach took time out from training to attend a tournament organised by his dad, Shah, at the Reebok Stadium where he met Yaqoob Hussain - head coach of the BwD Boxing Academy.

“It would be great if Amir can come along and support us,” said Yaqoob who is a good friend of Amir’s father. “But I suppose it all depends on how he gets on in his title fight. I know his dad Shah very well and Amir always supports local boxing and has been to Blackburn in the past.”

The King George’s Hall event will include 14 bouts, starting from 8pm, and tickets are priced £10.

For tickets contact either the KGH box office on 0844 8471664, Audley Sport Centre on 01254 680012 or from Yaqoob Hussain on 07787 570173.

Yaqoob is also hoping to attract a sponsor, anyone interested can contact him on the above number.
