BLACKBURN Rovers look set to extend Christian Vieri’s trial with the club.

Rovers currently have former Italian international Vieri on trial at their training camp in Austria and have been impressed enough with the forward’s fitness to consider extending his stay with the squad.

The ex-Juventus, Inter and AC Milan star, who turns 36 tomorrow, is likely to return to England with Rovers this weekend and continue training with the club.

That will allow Allardyce, who did not travel to Austria, to assess Vieri in person as he weighs up a move for the out-of-contract striker.

It is possible that Vieri could figure in Rovers’ first pre-season friendly at Cambridge on Tuesday as well as their matches in Italy and Croatia at the end of the week, although international clearance could yet prove to be a stumbling block.

Vieri is believed to be hungry to play in the Premier League for the first time, having persisted in his bid to earn a trial with Rovers despite the club’s initial reluctance to invite him to their Austrian training camp.
