CHRIS McCann labelled the day Burnley clinched prom-otion to the Premier League as the best of his life.

“It was my dream as a kid to play in the Premier League,” he declared.

The countdown to kick-off is on, when that fantasy will turn into a reality on August 15.

The fixtures, released 10 days ago, threw up a host of mouthwatering ties.

But there are two in particular that McCann has his eye on. “There’ll be some massive games next season, like against Blackburn.

"It’s a massive derby so everyone’s looking forward to that.

“And being a Manchester United fan, I can’t wait to go there,” said McCann, who is in talks over a contract extension.

Although the trip to Old Trafford is not until January 16, the Dubliner does not have long to wait to pit his wits against the club he grew up admiring back home in Dublin, as their first home game is against the champions three days after the season opener at Stoke.

“We’re just looking forward to the challenge ahead, and I’m sure the fans are looking forward to it as well,” said the midfielder, who turns 22 next month.

“It’s going to be a great experience going to places like Liverpool, and Chelsea again - all these massive places.”

And McCann is confident that manager Owen Coyle won’t allow his players, particularly those for whom it will be their first taste of top flight football, to be overawed by the experience.

“He has his own motivation and gives confidence to the players.

“He just encourages you every day, and the more encouragement you get the better and more relaxed you’re going to play.

“The gaffer’s not a believer in just kicking the ball; he wants to get it down and play it and pass it.

“We’ve shown the country this year we are a side like that, and on our day we can beat anybody.”
