BLACKBURN Rovers hope to thrash out a new contract for Morten Gamst Pedersen in the next few weeks.

The Norwegian winger’s current deal runs out at the end of next season and he admitted earlier this summer that he wants to prolong his stay at Ewood Park.

The 27-year-old has spent five years at the club since joining from Tromso for £1.5m back in 2004, and he enjoyed an upturn in form during the latter stages of last season’s Premier League campaign.

Pedersen’s performances improved considerably under Sam Allardyce - following a turbulent spell when former manager Paul Ince was in charge - and it is hoped that the Rovers boss can continue to bring the best out of the flying Scandinavian.

However, as Pedersen looks to bring a swift conclusion to contract talks, Rovers chairman John Williams admits negotiations may take some time.

“That’s something that we will look at over the next couple of weeks,” said Williams.

“I will have to sit down and talk to Sam about Morten’s situation, but I think all parties are willing to get something sorted.”
