BLACKBURN Rovers look set to fend off growing interest in midfielder Keith Andrews.

Andrews joined Rovers for an undisclosed fee last summer and gained admirers during his first full season in the Premier League.

The Lancashire Telegraph now understands that Rovers have received enquiries from more than one club about Andrews’ availability.

Reports have suggested that Wigan Athletic, in particular, are interesting in signing the 28-year-old, although that is believed to be wide of the mark.

Andrews followed Paul Ince from MK Dons to Ewood Park, moving up three divisions in the process, and established himself as a constant presence in the Rovers midfield.

Ince’s departure and Sam Allardyce’s arrival as boss could have proved to be a blow to his hopes of regular Premier League football but Andrews continued to hold down a place, missing just five league games during the campaign.

Allardyce utilised Andrews in both central midfield and at right back and is thought to be keen to keep hold of the former Wolves youngster, who still has two years left on his contract.

Andrews has also become a regular starter for the Republic of Ireland, despite only making his international debut in November.

The midfielder had previously played just one game in the Premier League - for Wolves in 2003.
