IT'S win or bust for Blackburn Hawks, as the curtain falls on the English National Ice Hockey League season this weekend.

Hawks travel to Manchester tomorrow for the second and deciding leg of their relegation play-off.

The scores are tied at two-apiece going into the game, following Phoenix’s last-gasp equaliser at the Blackburn Arena a fortnight ago.

Hawks had sufficient chances to secure their top-flight status in the opening encounter and general manager Andy Slater is confident the town team can finish the job off this weekend.

“Even though we enjoyed the greater possession of the play, we were unable to capitalise on it and get the win which was what we wanted from the game,” he said.

“However, we are hoping that in the return leg we finish the chances we create and win the tie outright, without having to go into overtime or the dreaded penalty shootout scenario.”

Ahead of the game, Hawks have been boosted by the return of two key strikers.

Slater added: “We are expecting to have a few extra players this week, with Tim McKay and Lance Derbyshire being available, which will strengthen the forward lines.

“But no matter what the outcome, I would like to thank all the fans and people who have supported the team this season and I look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
