LANCASHIRE coach Peter Moores has paid tribute to Jimmy Anderson after the Burnley bowler was named as one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year.

Moores said: “I’m delighted for Jimmy, over the past couple of years he has really matured as a person and a cricketer.

“No one works harder on or off the field, which is a contributing factor to him becoming a permanent member of England’s starting XI and the team’s most consistent bowler.

“Jimmy’s swing bowling is perfect for English wickets, as proven during the series against New Zealand and South Africa, but it’s what he has done away from home which is more impressive.

“He went to India last year and learnt how to adapt his game for subcontinent type conditions, and has shown this versatility during the recent tour of the West Indies.

“England’s summer is full of high-profile occasions and I would love nothing more than for James Anderson to play a key role.”
