HOTSHOT Paul Fildes has told Bacup Borough boss Brent Peters to get ready to lose his money if he thinks Tommy Turner will finish as the area’s top striker.

Peters reckons his man Turner is the best of the bunch - but Padiham ace Fildes went to the top of the tree in midweek with a stunning four-goal blast in a 6-0 stroll over Oldham Town.

And that is a position he intends to say in.

“I was laughing when I read in the Telegraph that Brent would put his money on Tommy Turner,” said Fildes.

“If I was him, I wouldn’t be putting my mortgage on it because he might finish up homeless.

“And it was funny when he was suggesting there was a massive difference between the Premier Division and the First Division.

"If there is, we haven’t noticed it when beating four teams from that league this season.

“But it doesn’t matter what league you are in - and last year I was leading scorer at Kendal in the UniBond Premier and that’s a decent standard.”

Fildes is now planning to stay at the top of the chart and add to his 25 goals.

“Now I am up there, I will stay there,” he added. “It might be bad news for my strike partner because I don’t think I will be passing too much between now and the end of the season.”

The Storks look to maintain their promotion push tomorrow with a trip to Leek.

“It will be a tough game down there,” said Fildes.

“With the weather, the pitch will be rock hard but it is more of the journey.

"It’s a long way and the journey can be a pain but we are looking to win the game.

“We are determined to try and win promotion and we are in a decent position.”

Turner will be in action for Bacup against Abbey Hey.
