JOHN Coleman isn’t at all bothered about missing out on the League Two manager of the month award - and actually feels for his players rather than himself.

Accrington’s manager was pipped to the prize by Chesterfield’s ex-Blackburn Rovers man Lee Richardson despite a six-match unbeaten run as Stanley scorch towards safety.

But Coleman said: “It is nice to be nominated - but what do such prizes mean anyway?

“A manager can’t do a lot. The hard work is done by the players, they win you points and games, not a manager.

“The award should really go to the players.

“But I suppose that being nominated is a measure of how far we have come in the last few weeks.”

The six-match unbeaten run has seen Stanley propel themselves away from the Blue Square trap door and they will be mathematically safe tomorrow if they beat Lincoln City and Chester fail to win at Notts County.

But Coleman insists that will not be an extra motivation for his men.

“You want to win every game you play,” added an upbeat Coleman.

“Obviously, we were not doing that enough earlier in the season but things have clicked together nicely and we want to keep the run going.

“It will be nice to be safe by Saturday night but that isn’t a big thing.

“It is in our own hands and we just want to keep the run going.

“But it will be tough against Lincoln.”
