PHIL Eastwood is calling on his Rossendale United men to roll their sleeves up and dig in for the battle for UniBond League survival as they face a massive clash with Warrington Town at Dark Lane tonight.

The Stags have been pulled right into the relegation mire after a run that has seen just seven points claimed in 2009 - and long-time cellar-dwellers Salford City are spending big and are now just seven points behind Eastwood’s men with the battle set to go right down to the wire.

Ex-Claret Eastwood (below), the player-boss of United, knows the breaks are not going for his side as illustrated by Saturday’s last-gasp loss at Chorley - but wants his men to get over that disappointment.

“We can put our heads down and sulk or we can roll up the sleeves and go again,” said Eastwood. “The effort is there for all to see and the performances are not a million miles away.

“But we are giving too many sloppy goals away and that will catch up with you eventually.

“The luck is not with us - but that is the way it goes when you are struggling. There is no point moaning - you have to make your own luck.

“Salford are closing in - but I am not bothered about the gap between us and them. There is a gap and survival is still in our hands. It is down to us. If it gets to a situation where it is not in our hands, we have done something wrong.

“Many a good team have gone down in all levels of football. We have to keep doing the right things and make sure that we are not one of them.”
