MR Dependable Graham Alexander has been hailed as the model professional as he looks to get over his Dutch disaster for Scotland.

Burnley’s veteran ever-present won his 38th cap for his country in the disappointing 3-0 defeat in Holland at the weekend.

And while his starting spot may be under threat for tomorrow’s crucial World Cup group nine Hampden Park clash with Iceland, the 37-year-old - who has played every game for the Clarets this season – will bounce back according to Turf Moor chief executive Paul Fletcher.

Fletcher, who was himself a virtual ever-present as a player during his 10 years at Turf Moor before a spell at Blackpool and then his move into football administration, insists that Alexander is a great - and a man all players can look up to.

“Graham is a model professional,” said Fletcher. “His attitude is first class and he takes everything, both good and bad, in his stride.

“His record this season for us is remarkable and it says so much about him that he is still in the international frame at his age.”
