COLNE'S Steven Burke went close to breaking the 1km Madison time trial record when he posted a time of 54.547 seconds with team-mate Ed Clancy at the Revolution meeting in Manchester.
The 20-year-old, who won a bronze medal in the individual pursuit at the 2008 Olympics, will not be making a swift return to Beijing this week after being rested from the GB squad for the latest in the World Cup series.
The series concludes in Copenhagen next month before the main event of the track cycling year, the World Championships in March.
