BARRY Kilby has labelled Burnley’s Carling Cup quarter-final triumph over Arsenal as one of his greatest experiences as chairman, but hopes the best is yet to come.

Kilby marks his 10-year anniversary at the Turf Moor helm this month, and he is hoping to celebrate with promotion, ending the Clarets’ 32-year exile from English football’s top flight.

“We’ve had two fabulous cup wins against Chelsea and Arsenal back-to-back, which has lifted everyone’s spirits and gives you faith,” he said.

“The absolute thing we want to achieve is to get into the Premier League.

“After all these years out of the top flight that’s still our major aim and I think we can certainly get in the play-offs this season.”

And Kilby hopes that after reaching a major semi-final for the first time in 25 years, their Carling Cup progress will coincide with a sustained promotion push.

“It can work both ways,” he said. “I’ve seen it act as a distraction but I’ve also seen cup runs galvanise sides and we’ve got to make sure it has a positive affect on our league performances.”
