FATHER and son football hooligans have been barred from Clarets games after being involved in a mob attack on four Arsenal fans outside Turf Moor.

Police have welcomed a four-year football banning order for Joshua Gornall, 20, and a similar three-year restriction for his dad Steven, 46, after they were involved in a gang attack on the visiting supporters on January 6.

Detectives say they were part on an “emerging” band of troublemakers which the authorities are determined to call time on.

The Gornalls, who both live in Skipton Road, Steeton, West Yorkshire, are the latest to be barred from the nation’s football grounds under Lancashire Police’s Operation Fixture.

Joshua and Steven Gornall were convicted after a trial of using words or behaviour likely to cause fear of unlawful violence, following the Clarets v Arsenal FA Cup game at Turf Moor, on January 6.

Joshua Gornall also received 90 days in jail, suspended for 12 months, with 150 hours unpaid work. Steven Gornall received 50 hours unpaid work. Both were ordered to pay £350 costs.

Bill Maude, prosecuting, said the four victims, one wearing an Arsenal scarf, parked their car next to the cricket pavilion as directed and as they returned after the match they saw a number of people on the pavilion verandah.

A gang of men came running down the steps and as they approached their vehicle they were pelted with half-full plastic beer cups.

One Arsenal supporter, who said 10-15 men charged towards them, was punched before several members of his group were hit.

The four Arsenal fans were then attacked by the “mob”.

The officer said the Burnley supporters rained blows on the Arsenal fans, who went between parked cars to try and protect themselves.

After the hearing, Chief Insp Jeff Brown said: “This has been a good result for us.

"This had been an emerging group at Burnley and we will continue to target them with banning orders.”
