League leaders Leyland dominated proceedings in a reduced-overs match at Windsor Park but, facing a mammoth total, Chorley hung on to deny the visitors an outright win.

Leyland pro Ameer Khan was the star of the show, hitting an unbeaten 108, and he received strong support from Andrew Makinson (50) and Peter Cummings (41 n.o.) in an impressive total of 238-4 from 42 overs. Ian Oakes, deputising for unavailable leading batsman Josh Tolley, and Nigel Eastham gave the Chorley reply a sound start but after Oakes was out for 18 Leyland picked up further wickets at regular intervals.

Eastham top-scored with a hard-hit 41 and late-order resistance from Sam Sweeney (18 n.o.) ensured that Leyland had to settle for a winning draw, as Chorley closed on 115-7 after 40 overs.

The pick of the Leyland bowlers was Cummings with 4 for 40.

Meanwhile, Darwen gained a losing draw over St Anne’s at Birch Hall.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat, with Atiq Uz-Zaman scoring 78 before being bowled by Andrew Cook, as they raced to a total of 186-5 from 28 overs.

In a rain-affected reply, Darwen scored 163-2 from 25 overs, with the highlights being a knock of 85 not out from Atif Ashraf and 47 from Gareth Cordingley.
