OWEN Coyle is hoping to bring in one new signing before the squad jets off to America tomorrow.

But the Burnley boss has said all transfer activity will be put on hold while they are in the States.

The Clarets have already added four new faces over the summer and Coyle has said his spending is set to continue.

And he is keen to further strengthen before heading away on their trip to face Carolina RailHawks on Thursday and Minnesota Thunder next Tuesday.

He said: “Ideally we have until Tuesday to bring in any new players, but if we can’t do that then we’ll have to wait until we come back. It’d be physically impossible for me to sign anyone while I’m over there.”

Two players who continue to be linked with a move to Turf Moor are out-of-favour Celtic midfielder Derek Riordan and Hearts’ Oldham-born striker Andrew Driver.

But Coyle stressed again that there has been no contact with either SPL club about either of the players for some weeks.

And he has threatened to pull the plug on any deal for 25-year-old former Hibernian ace Riordan, who has made only 36 appearances for Gordon Strachan’s side since signing for Celtic two seasons ago.

He said: “We are known to be admirers of him but I want my players at Burnley and I want them now.

It might very well be that, if there is a deal to be done with any player, then we move on.

“If you go after a target and you can’t get him, you have to move quickly somewhere else and that’s the way we operate.”

Driver’s agent is to meet with Hearts officials this week to discuss the winger’s future.

However, Coyle said: “Hearts weren’t prepared to do business and we’ve not gone back since then. That’s the way that stands at the moment.”
