BLACKBURN teenager Steven McGlynn heads a list of East Lancashire golfers gunning to reach this year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

The 19-year-old is among a group of four heading to Hillside on Monday and Tuesday for 36-hole local final qualifying.

He will be joined by Shaw Hill amateur Jonathan Hurst, Paul Dwyer of Clitheroe and Accrington’s Mark Harling.

McGlynn, the 2007 Harold Ryden Trophy champion, made the list after being successful at regional qualifying at Pannal.

Burnley’s Ben Scott and Mark Bradley of Chorley will also be looking to reach the Open in final qualifying at Southport & Ainsdale.

Longridge amateur and 2007 Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit champion Mark Young, who is based in Clitheroe, also has a chance when he heads to West Lancashire.

Local final qualifying will be played over two consecutive days at each of the three venues – Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, and West Lancashire.

The starting field for each LFQ is 96 players, and there will be four qualification places from each venue into The Open at Royal Birkdale, thus 12 entrants in total.
