Ollie Norburn wants to get "Boundary Park bouncing" for Oldham Athletic's FA Cup first round tie with Sheffield Wednesday.

The captain earned Latics their first away win of the season with his first goal for the club in midweek.

And on the back of a galvanised response to two controversial red cards in defeat to Crawley, Norburn wants to build momentum from their 1-0 win at Northampton Town when attentions turn to cup action on Sunday (kick-off 5.30pm).

"It's a great tie," Norburn said.

"Sheffield Wednesday will bring a lot of fans; let's stick together and show a real unity.

"Let's get Boundary Park bouncing.

"I think the fans reacted well to what happened on Saturday, I think that was a real big thing and showed everyone's in this, and it's a massive help when the fans are behind us. So let's stick together, keep battling and get out of this situation."

Referencing the reaction to a run of just one win in 10 League Two games before Tuesday night's success at Sixfields, Norburn added: "Sometimes you've got to accept as players fans get frustrated, and rightly so, they pay their money and performances haven't been in certain games where they need to be at and what this squad's capable of. But when they do get behind us it is a massive boost and the lads felt the effects of that on Saturday."

The win at Northampton moved Latics up to 18th place, three points clear of the bottom two.

"The league table doesn't lie and that's where we find ourselves, so we can't be feeling sorry for ourselves, we need to crack on, take the criticism when it comes and kind of deal with that and show a reaction," Norburn continued.

"I think we've started to do that in a few performances in recent weeks, and it's about us as a group and fans as well, everyone sticking together and let's get out of this."
