Tony Mowbray insists Blackburn Rovers' squad players must take their opportunities after a lack of impact from the bench at West Brom.

At the end of a three-game week, Rovers' depth was tested at The Hawthorns despite Mowbray making the one change.

Jayden Fevrier was called on early, whilst Moussa Baradji, Jake Garrett and Mathias Jorgensen were called on after an hour to try and stem the flow of the match.

None particularly made an impact, with Mowbray openly questioning his decision to make those alterations.

"I don't want to make excuses," he told RoversTV.

"Was it right to put three substitutions on after an hour? We put three on at Bristol City and saw the game out.

"It's important that everyone in the squad feels they can contribute and help. We can't keep going with the same XI players.

"We were ready to go three at the back, leave two up front and match their three in midfield when they got the penalty.

"I'd be frustrated if I came on today and we lost two goals in that period. That is football and we have to accept it.

Ultimately, it has been a positive week for Rovers with six points collected from their three games.

It is the manner of the late goals at West Brom that creates the feeling of what may have been. Had they lost 3-0 at the end of a long week, I suspect the frustration would be far less.

Mowbray admitted he'd have taken the two victories but wants his team to be more positive and play on the front foot, having changed their mindset after two early goals.

"We'd have taken six points at the start of this run," he conceded.

"It's been three tough games, Cardiff are a good team. The haul of points is ok but it's frustrating when you're doing so well and start on the front foot.

"I want them to play like that for longer spells. You do have to soak up some spells but I have told them what I think.

"I want them to be more aggressive; don't stand off people. You have to engage people and you accept the the odd foul.

"We need players to stop standing two yards off and thinking that's the job done. Don't let people pass around them and I think that message has been loud and clear.

"We are at our best playing on the front foot and running forward. Maybe going 2-0 up didn't do us any favours as it changed the mindset."
