Andri Gudjohnsen chipped in with a goal and an assist as Iceland beat Luxembourg 3-0 in the Nations League.
Gudjohnsen opened the scoring with a clever first-time finish over the goalkeeper after getting on the end of Orri Oskarsson’s low cross.
The roles reversed for the second goal as Gudjohnsen sent Oskarsson through on goal with a clever flick and he kept his cool to slot home.
The Rovers forward got 75 minutes under his belt before making way for Mikael Anderson. Gudjohnsen has now scored in back-to-back games for his country, taking his tally to six for the season.
"We scored three goals and kept a clean sheet. Both our strikers scored so I can't ask for much more," he told the Icelandic press.
"I just looked over my right shoulder to see if (Oskarsson) was in a position to make a run through and I decided to just put him in the area, and he does a really good job of receiving it and just getting one-on-one with the goalkeeper. And he scores a great goal, so it's just such a pleasure.
"The relief is great. It's always nice to win games, especially internationals. The atmosphere has been good, but we were disappointed after the game against Estonia.
“But I mean, three points today and we're at the top. There's just a little bit of focus on Bulgaria right now."
The result takes Iceland to the top of Group L with four points from their opening games. Arnar Gunnlaugsson’s side host Bulgaria this weekend before heading to Estonia on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Kristi Montgomery was an unused substitute as Scotland lost 3-0 against Switzerland at Hampden Park.
The hosts had to play most of the game with 10 men after Jack Hendry brought down Dan Ndoye on the edge of the box.
Ricardo Rodriguez scored the resulting free kick, with Nico Elvedi and Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni also on target after the break.
It was Sebastien Pocognoli’s first defeat in the role, leaving Scotland third in Group E with one point on the board.
“Not a lot to say about the game… 80 per cent of the game with 10 men,” said the Belgian. “Red card, then directly punished from the red card with a free kick, so probably the worst situation that we can have.
“We should prefer maybe a penalty and to stay with 11 men and to maybe show exactly what we planned for the game.
“We started quite aggressive, front foot, and then after eight minutes the game plan has to be put to the side and we just see if the team react well or not with 10 men, and they did their best.
“To be honest, they had a great attitude to just stick together, try to have the moment in transition or set pieces or something, but it never happened because Switzerland is a good side and they didn’t give anything away.”
Pocognoli’s side head to North Macedonia this weekend before returning to Hampden to host Slovenia.
