Colne secure hard-fought win at Daisy Hill to climb table

An early goal put them in the driving seat and they fought hard throughout the game to ensure there was no comeback for the home side.

Colne's first attack after three minutes gave Jamie Walker a sight of goal but Daisy Hill keeper Harry Allen claimed the ball from his half-hit shot.

Four minutes later, the Reds attacked again as Saul Guffogg released Wiggin for a run on the right wing and he laid the ball back across the home area for Walker in the middle to fire into an empty net with the keeper stranded.

Colne pushed forward looking for a second goal and Allen was in constant action saving a shot by Jack Banks and a far post header by Guffogg.

At the other end, the Reds' defence coped well with sporadic attacks by the home side, mainly instigated by Leon Arnasalam.

On the half hour, Colne came close when Sam Lloyd's through ball sent Banks into the home area and his low shot beat the advancing keeper but flew inches wide of the far post.

Five minutes later, a long throw into the home area fell to Banks just 12 yards out and his goal-bound shot was saved by the keeper's outstretched foot.

Colne continued to attack in the second half as Ben Horne joined the game from the subs bench and provided more options with his runs forward.

Banks forced a save from the keeper as he blocked a goal-bound shot following a good build-up by the Reds and Wiggin was unlucky as the loose ball spun past him in the six yard box from a left wing cross.

Daisy Hill had claims for a penalty waved aside by the referee when Danny McLaughlin went down in the Colne area on the hour.

But the home side had a narrow escape when Wiggin beat the keeper to a back-pass and knocked the ball inches wide of the goal.

Colne created further chances and Banks saw his goal-bound shot pushed wide by Allen with a good save after 70 minutes.

Daisy Hill threatened with a free kick at the other end but Will Shawcross fired wide of the target.

In the closing stages, Corey Stacey created further chances for the Reds and Wiggin saw his shot blocked by the keeper's legs as Daisy Hill defended desperately.

But at the other end, Arnasalam continued to create chances with his penetrating runs and high balls into the Colne goalmouth where Harry Turner punched the ball away from under his crossbar under pressure to clear the danger as the Reds held on firmly to secure the three points.
