Chris Wilder admitted it wasn’t pretty at times but was “delighted” to see his Sheffield United side leave Ewood Park with the points.

The Blades came back from behind thanks to goals from Tom Cannon and Sydie Peck before the break.

The result takes Wilder’s side into the top 10, with nine points under their belt from the opening six games.

“Delighted with the attitude and mentality of the players,” he told BBC Sheffield. “It was important we recovered from a really disappointing last half hour on Saturday afternoon (at Norwich), I didn’t enjoy that.

“Certain things that maybe played a part in that, we talked about that at length on Sunday. We have got a reaction, a win.

“Every club in the division is looking for the consistency individually, as a team and results, we are all after that.

“The league is a crackers league, results are up and down. But in this particular moment, I have talked to the players about getting through to the international break and picking points up.

“Turn the clock back 12 months, we know where we were and now we are sat inside the top 10. I am not kidding myself that these are free flowing performances at the moment.

“We are grinding it out and scrapping a little bit. But I have got a team that puts everything on the line, as they did today.”

Jordan Ayew was named on the bench after signing a deal until the end of the campaign at Bramall Lane.

“Whirlwind,” Wilder added. “I talked about it on Friday, had incredibly positive conversations with Jordan. We looked at the free market and that one came straight up for us.

“I talked about it in the press regarding some players, names that look sexy but haven’t played any football for six, nine, 12 months, two years. I can’t afford to take a gamble on that.

“Jordan is an unbelievable pro and captains his country. His family are legendary in Ghana, 120 caps, 500-plus league games, the majority of them in the Premier League. Character reference from trusted people, what happened at Leicester last season.

“Plays off the left, as a nine, as a 10, off the right. We lost Callum (O’Hare) and we have brought Jordan in.”
