Following on from their comeback victory against Stalybridge Celtic, Clitheroe travelled to Shifnal Town on Monday and won in dramatic fashion with a late penalty securing a well-deserved 2-1 victory.
Clitheroe started the game strongly, with an early chance from distance by Danny Wilkins going just wide, before Harry Scarborough was played in behind and also went narrowly close.
The pressure paid off just 10 minutes in when Jordan Carroll opened the scoring, a fizzed ball into the box by Demi Rhami before a nice turn gave him time to calmly dispatch an easy finish into the bottom-right corner.
Clitheroe continued to push for a second, with Nathan Sandison twice going close, first heading over from a corner, then dragging a strike just wide from the edge of the box.
Harry Scarborough was also denied by a good save after a slick move down the left, while another run saw him go down, sparking appeals that were waved away by the referee.
Clitheroe were in complete control throughout the first half and deservedly went into the break 1-0 up.
The momentum shifted after the restart, with Clitheroe not coming out with the same intensity, though Shifnal didn't look too threatening either.
Nathan Sandison was booked for bringing down a Shifnal player on a counter-attack, and it proved costly, as the resulting free-kick was headed home by Andre Landell to level the game.
Clitheroe thought they had won a penalty soon after when Rhami was brought down in the box, but the assistant's flag for offside cut the appeals short despite adamant protests the winger had been onside.
Both sides made attacking changes as the game opened up, with neither able to find a breakthrough with time running out and the game stayed end-to-end.
Deep into the dying stages of the game, Clitheroe won a penalty.
Substitute Maine Walder made an incredible run down the line after being played in by Josh Briggs, before cutting the ball back to Touray, who was brought down in the box after the Shifnal defender took his ankle, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.
Gilchrist stepped up and slotted it home, the goalkeeper getting a hand to it but not enough to keep it out.
Clitheroe held on through a tense finish to see out a fully-deserved victory, having dominated large parts of the game and responded well to Shifnal's equaliser to come away with all three points.
