Tony Mowbray says Blackburn Rovers are waiting on decisions from transfer targets after holding talks with potential incomings.
Rovers have five days of the summer window left to improve their squad. So far, Jayden Fevrier and Sam Morsy are the only players to arrive at Ewood Park.
Mowbray suggested things were moving forward when speaking earlier in the week. But as the clock ticks down, it feels like there is plenty of work still to do.
The head coach insisted that there will be more fresh faces before Tuesday's 11pm deadline and believes supporters will be pleased if they can land their targets.
"I am very confident that will happen," Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"I know a lot of people are working very hard behind the scenes. I've had lots of conversations about positions; I have spoken to several players and they have decisions to make.
"Quite excited by some of them, it would be interesting for the club. I think they could really come and help the balance of how we are trying to set the team up at the moment.
"Let's see. For the supporters, if the players we are trying to attract come, I think they will be happy."
Rovers have also freed up a little bit of space with some departures. At the time of writing, only Connor O'Riordan's move has been confirmed but George Pratt and Axel Henriksson are both expected to leave on loan too.
As for other exits, Balazs Toth's future remains up in the air. Reported interest from Celtic has gone quiet but he could still depart before Tuesday.
Speaking generally about Rovers' key players, Mowbray admitted he couldn't offer any guarantees given his contract situation.
"It's part of football," Mowbray admitted on outgoings.
"To bring players in, you have to move some on. If you have players who don't feel they will be part of it or you have offers too good to turn down, in relation to contracts, you have to make those decisions.
"People make enquiries about your players and we have to make a call. Can we do without them or if we accept some money in one position, can we strengthen in another?
"I haven't had any offers directly to me. In modern football, it doesn't come to the head coach. If there are, it won't be on my desk.
"To my knowledge, there is no deals on the table for any of our (key) players. I would love to keep all of our best players but I understand the business.
"If someone's contract is at a certain point and there is a deal to be done, and they won't sign a new one, sometimes the best thing to do is negotiate a deal.
"Sign a new player, give them a longer deal and get on with the job. That's what could happen along the way.
"Hopefully, at the end of the window, we will have a more balanced squad to compete in the Championship."
