Chris Wilder insists Sheffield United will show Blackburn Rovers full respect as they target a place in the Carabao Cup second round.
Tony Mowbray's side host their Championship rivals two weeks before the teams meet again at Ewood Park in the league.
Both teams will make changes to give fringe players game time, but Wilder stressed Sheffield United still want to progress.
"We'll approach it just as if it was a league game," Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"I have been very consistent with that throughout pre-season. I've spoken about the mentality of the team, which is very good and it has to be.
"I don't want everyone ever pulling on a Sheffield United shirt and not giving 100 per cent. We might get beat now and again, some opportunities, but you give everything you have got.
"We have got some changes will be enforced on us and others; I'll change around. That'll be our approach but it won't be kids on the bench and playing.
"There might be one or two in the 20 but it'll be a team I expect to try and get through to the next round of the cup."
The Blades will be without Ryan One and Tahith Chong, who also missed Saturday's draw at Swansea City.
"We have a couple enforced from the weekend," Wilder updated.
"Ryan (One) and Chongy won't be back, they're ongoing issues. We don't want to rush players back or take chances. We need some continuity and we don't need to take risks.
"When they're back, they'll hopefully be ready to stay for a period of time."
Free agent defender Adam Webster will not sign before the Rovers game and could not play anyway as he recovers from a torn ACL.
"I have known Adam for a long time, he's had a big injury but not a career-ending one.
"He's out of contract and that's the market we're looking in: free transfers and loans. He came up for a few days; I can't deny that.
"He is of interest to us. He wouldn't be available next week but we're not signing players for January 2027. We want him to compete if we get there.
"I met him in the summer and he's still on the table for us."
