Young Burnley forward Michael Mellon has completed a permanent move to League One Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old striker spent last season on loan at Oldham Athletic and was Latics' 10-goal top scorer despite having his campaign cut short by injury.

Mellon, who played under dad Michael at Boundary Park following Oldham's return to the Football League, joins Boro' having spent six years with the Clarets.

He made a name for himself in loan spells at Morecambe, Dundee, a promotion winning spell at Bradford City and, most recently, Latics, where he scored 10 goals in 18 games, including two hat-tricks.

Although Oldham boss Mellon would have loved to continue his working relationship with his son, with Burnley looking for a fee there was not enough room in the budget.

Mellon had attracted interest from a number of clubs, with Plymouth Argyle understood to be among them, but he has penned a three-year deal at Stevenage.
