Sam Morsy says he is ready to be thrown straight into the action if called upon at Wolves tonight.
The 34-year-old penned a one-year deal at Ewood Park earlier this week. He had been a free agent since his departure from Bristol City.
Morsy spent time with the PFA squad in pre-season and played in several friendlies against Under-21 sides.
Although no friendly will be quite like the opening day of the Championship season, the midfielder insists he feels ready for the new campaign.
“I'm ready to go. I played two 45s and one 90 (minutes against) 21s teams. Albeit, they're not professional teams but I've looked after myself well enough,” he said.
“Not just physically but mentally as well, which is the most important thing when you're preparing for a long campaign, the mental side of the game. So I'm ready to go, ready to contribute, ready to compete.”
The trip to Molineux holds extra significance for Morsy, who was born in Wolverhampton and spent time in the club’s Academy set-up as a youngster.
“I grew up there, I was at Wolves when I was seven until 16,” he recalled. “I remember playing at a National Cup final there when I was 14, I scored there.
“I have been there a couple of times with Barnsley, Wigan, Ipswich and now Blackburn, and got a couple of good results there as well, so I can't wait to go back.”
It is a tough start for Rovers against opponents who were playing Premier League football last season, but Morsy is relishing the challenge ahead.
“Arguably, there are not many tougher starts but you will see where you're at as well. You can test your resolve straight away,” he added.
“All the talk about togetherness and cohesion, we are going to need all of that because they are a good team.
“They can have spells in the game where you are hanging on, they will do that to anyone. So it's going to be about can we stay together and can we show our quality as well? Because certainly we have got some real threats as well.”
