Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Sam Morsy on a free transfer to bolster Tony Mowbray's options in central midfield.
The 34-year-old becomes their second addition of the summer, following Jayden Fevrier's arrival from Stockport County. He boosts an area of the squad which needed reinforcements following Sondre Tronstad's departure, signing a one-year deal at Ewood Park.
Morsy brings a wealth of Championship experience, most notably captaining Ipswich Town to promotion in 2023/24. He was most recent at Bristol City where he made 18 appearances but left at the end of his short-term contract.
Mowbray spoke about the need to add 'another man' to his team and Morsy will bring leadership attributes. His tough-tackling style will add more grit to midfield and will help the younger players in the squad.
Morsy could make his debut against Wolves on Friday night, the club which he started his footballing joruney at. He established himself in senior football at Port Vale, Chesterfield and Wigan Athletic, winning promotion four times in six seasons.
He is perhaps most well known for his 165 appearances with the Tractor Boys, though. Morsy played a huge role in Ipswich's rise from League One to the Premier League, captaining the side along the way.
He left for a brief spell at Kuwait SC before signing for Bristol City last term. He now joins Rovers and will give Mowbray more experience in midfield.
