Former Rovers defender Jake Batty is back in the North West after signing for League Two side Fleetwood Town.

Batty progressed through the Academy ranks at Rovers and made a couple of appearances for the first team.

The left-back also had a loan spell at Stanley before completing a permanent move to Swindon Town in January.

Batty’s short-term deal at the County Ground expired at the end of last season and he now returns to League Two to play for the Cod Army.

“It’s really nice to be here and it feels like it’s the right move for me,” he told the club. “It’s the right environment and the right structure of the club.

“If I want to step my game up over the next couple of years, I feel like this is the place to do it and build myself a platform to hopefully push Fleetwood back up the table.

“The manager made it very clear how he wanted me to play and how he wanted me to impact the team.

“I feel like the lads are a good set of lads and I can get on well with them, create that bond and hopefully that translates onto the pitch.

“The whole environment is just a friendly one. I didn’t feel uncomfortable coming in, and that’s probably one of the reasons why I felt like this was the club for me.

“Building that trust and bond with the lads is such a big thing. Even though I’ve signed now, it doesn’t really change anything because I’ve already built those relationships over the last couple of weeks.”

Batty is now hoping to get a regular run of games under his belt and ultimately help Fleetwood get back to the third tier.

“My main aim is to get Fleetwood back into League One,” he added. “I want to be someone the fans can cheer for.

“If I leave a club and the fans have a good word and speak highly of you, I don’t think you can go wrong. I just want to fit in with the lads, bring a good vibe and help get Fleetwood back to where we know we should be.”
