EFL pundit Kevin Phillips believes Tony Mowbray could unlock Daniel Jebbison if he signs for Blackburn Rovers.
Lancashire Telegraph reported last week that talks are ongoing to sign the 22-year-old striker. There is interest elsewhere, with Preston North End also reported to be keen on bringing him back to Deepdale, where he spent last season.
Mowbray has a good reputation of developing you talent and with Rovers desperate to add more goals, Jebbison could help.
He believes that the striker has all the physical attributes and Mowbray could help him kick on.
"Yeah, he's been at Bournemouth, he's had loan spells at Watford and Preston, hasn't been a prolific goal scorer," he told BestBettingSites.
"He's still young, he's six foot three, so he's got the attributes of being that lone striker, Canadian international. And if anyone can get the best out of him, it's Tony Mowbray.
"So, potentially, he could be one of those players that you bring in who has had experience of the Championship and Mowbray can get him scoring goals and firing on all cylinders.
"So, as I said, on that spine of the team, a potential striker, centre midfielder, maybe another centre-half would be good for the club."
Rovers are yet to break their duck in the transfer market, aside from making Moussa Baradji's move permanent.
Despite that, Phillips thinks Mowbray's arrival instantly improves their chances of climbing the table.
"I think it gives them a better opportunity to finish higher up the table immediately, for sure, because he's got obvious experience, promotions, and keeping teams in the league," he said.
"It just depends on signings, what budget he's been given. They've been quiet so far. I think they've signed one player, Baradji, who they had last season on loan.
"Central midfield is an area I've always said you need to strengthen down the spine of the team whenever you take over. So Mowbray gives them a better opportunity because of his experience.
"I expect them to be challenging for the playoffs. I'm just interested to see how many signings and who come through the door from now to the start of the season."
