Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Mike Dodds as their new assistant head coach.
The 40-year-old arrives at Ewood Park following a stint as assistant to Matt Bloomfield at Oxford United in the Championship last season.
Dodds began his coaching career in Coventry City’s Academy set-up before heading to Birmingham City in 2009.
He spent 12 years at St Andrew’s – working with the likes of Jude and Jobe Bellingham - before heading to Sunderland.
Dodds was placed in charge of individual player development at the Stadium of Light and would later work with Tony Mowbray, who had a spell in charge of the Black Cats between 2022 and 2023.
He had three spells as caretaker manager in the North East before landing a permanent managerial role at Wycombe Wanderers in League One.
The Chairboys finished fifth in the third tier but were beaten in the play-offs by Charlton Athletic, who went on to win promotion at Wembley.
Wycombe had a tough start to the following season and Dodds’ time in charge came to an end last September.
Earlier this year, Oxford brought him to assist Bloomfield in the dugout. The U’s were in a relegation battle with Rovers last term and ultimately finished in the bottom three.
Bloomfield was sacked last week and Aaron Ramsey has since been named the new head coach at the Kassam Stadium. Now, Dodds heads to Ewood Park after the clubs agreed a compensation agreement.
An Oxford statement read: “We would like to thank Mike for his hard work and dedication and wish him well for the future.”
