Forest Green Rovers have denied claims that a Morecambe supporter was kicked out of their ground for eating a bacon sarnie, insisting the now‑viral story is "fake news".
A video circulated on social media after Saturday’s National League game at the Fully Charged New Lawn appeared to show a visiting fan being ejected while holding what users claimed was a bacon sandwich.
The clip quickly spread among Morecambe supporters, prompting accusations that the self‑styled vegan club had taken issue with the meaty snack.
Forest Green Rovers are widely known as a vegan football club, serving only plant‑based food to fans, players and staff on matchdays.
The club’s menu was officially registered with the Vegan Trademark in 2017, making them the first football club in the world to receive that recognition.
Their vegan stance is part of a wider environmental push that also includes an organic, pesticide‑free pitch and a commitment to sustainability across the stadium.
But Forest Green say the incident had “nothing to do” with bacon and was instead the result of a supporter’s behaviour.
In a statement posted on social media, the club said: "We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday.
"Contrary to social media opinion and wisdom, the ejection was nothing to do with bacon sarnies, more a little ‘over exuberance’ on the last day of the season.
"After repeated warnings the stewards were left with no choice and the gentleman was ejected from the stadium.”
Manager Robbie Savage also dismissed the story during his 606 show on BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday.

Forest Green rounded off their league campaign with a 5-0 win over the Shrimps in Nailsworth on Saturday.
Morecambe's relegation to the National League North had already been confirmed during a 5-1 loss to Woking as the club begin their arduous re-structuring process.
