Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the sad passing of club legend Tony Parkes, aged 76.
Often referred to as 'Mr Blackburn Rovers', Parkes passed away on Wednesday night.
The club will mark his contribution to Rovers with 'a special tribute will be held to celebrate Tony’s life' at Ewood Park next weekend as they end the season against Leicester City.
Over three decades, Parkes played for and managed Rovers in three different divisions. He worked under four different bosses, tasted promotion on four occasions and played his role in the coaching staff as the club won the Premier League, Worthington Cup and competed in European competition.
Having joined Rovers from Buxton Town for a fee of just £5,000 in May 1970, he went on to score 46 goals in 409 appearances for the club.
Having initially joined the coaching team under new boss Bobby Saxton, Parkes would go on to have six spells as interim manager. He most importantly led the club to top-flight safety in 1996 after the exit of Ray Harford.
Parkes' later years saw him fight against Alzheimer's disease but he would still often visit Ewood Park with his daughter, Natalie, who ensured her dad remained connected to the club he loved.
