An already relegated Morecambe side fell to promotion chasing Boreham Wood in their penultimate National League game as goals from Adbul Abdulmalik, Joe Newton and Lewis Richardson downed The Shrimps.
After their relegation status was confirmed in last week’s thrashing to Woking, Morecambe stepped out onto the Mazuma Stadium turf with only pride to play for.
Under pressure from the off, Boreham Wood began the brightest of the two sides, Erico Sousa firing over the bar as Morecambe struggled to break into the opposition half.
Jamal Blackman was kept on his toes, first beaten by Zak Brunt’s chip which fortunately hit the post before Sousa’s second effort was deflected wide.
Soon after, Abdulmalik’s low-driven shot broke the deadlock, sapping the already diminished energy from the game.
Goals from Newton and Richardson in the dying moments were typical of a Morecambe side that has shipped almost a hundred this season.
Bar a couple of strong saves from Blackman, there was little to shout about for the hosts, Boreham Wood strolling through the rest of the afternoon and guaranteeing a minimum fourth-place finish.
A visit to 7th-place Forest Green will cap off what has been a difficult season to stomach for Shrimps supporters.

News that Jim Bentley will be remaining at the club (albeit not as the manager) will be a welcome break from the seemingly never-ending doom and gloom.
The summer though, cannot come soon enough.
