Rovers boss Valerien Ismael hopes to have Sondre Tronstad back available at Portsmouth this weekend.

The midfielder has missed the past few games after suffering an ankle injury during the victory at Preston North End.

Tronstad is back in training and Rovers will make a late call over his involvement at Fratton Park.

“At the minute, we don’t have any problems from the last game and that’s good," Ismael told RoversTV.

“We will see if we can get Sonny back for the game, but the signs are positive at the moment.

“He’s been training, but we still have important days before the game. We need technical leaders on the pitch and Sonny is one of them.

"I think Sonny would offer to drive himself to Portsmouth! We’re happy to have him.”

There are no new concerns from the draw against Oxford but Hayden Carter, Scott Wharton, Balazs Toth, Ryan Hedges, Augustus Kargbo and Kristi Montgomery remain sidelined.

Hedges and Toth could come back into contention for the home fixture against Millwall on December 20.

“Hedgey is doing well but it will be too short, and we don’t want to take any risks,” Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“He is more likely Millwall. (Toth) as well, it might be too tight for that game but maybe Millwall would be better.”

Taylor Gardner-Hickman made way at half time on Tuesday night, but the head coach confirmed that it was simply a tactical change.

“We were 1-0 down and at some point we needed to bring Toddy earlier into the game. That was why we took him out,” he explained.

Rovers have had their fair share of bad injury luck over the past few months and been without some key personnel.

“The profile, the quality, the technical quality they have got, in those games it is exactly what you need,” the boss admitted.

“But it is what it is. We try to deal with the situation and manage it well. The players give the performances they can and we give a chance to the young boys as well. But at some point they will come back and I think we will look completely different.”
