Chorley earned a hard-fought point on the road as Matt Urwin’s late penalty save secured a 1-1 draw at Worksop Town.
The hosts started brightly and opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Jordan Burrow reacted quickest to turn the ball home after Matt Urwin had parried a fierce shot. After a shaky start Chorley gradually grew into the contest, with new loan-signing Anjola Popoola showing early promise and efforts from Milan Lalkovic and Mike Calveley testing the Worksop defence, though the Magpies were unable to find a breakthrough before the interval.
The second half began with a lengthy stoppage following a serious injury to Worksop midfielder Martin Woods, who required treatment before being stretchered from the field. Once play resumed, Chorley pushed forward with real intent and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when Warren Clarke was brought down inside the box. Lalkovic took responsibility from the spot and calmly sent goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw the wrong way to level the match.
Moments later, Tom Carr appeared to be caught by Forshaw in the area, but the referee waved away the appeals, before at the other end Mark Ellis produced a superb goal-line clearance to keep the Magpies in the contest.
The game’s biggest moment came late on when Worksop were awarded a contentious penalty. Vaughan Redford stepped up, but Urwin produced a brilliant save to preserve the point.
Both sides battled through extensive added time and Chorley came close to snatching a winner, Carr being denied by a smart save the Tigers' keeper, but the score remained level and Chorley returned home with a deserved draw.
