Clitheroe’s impressive unbeaten run is extended to seven games in all competitions as they gained a credible point away at the league leaders Lower Breck.

The Blues came storming out of the gates with an early goal from Luke Gill. Veron Parny played the ball through to the onrushing striker who tucked it comfortably past Theo Roberts in the sixth minute.

The visitors had the chance to double the lead in the 24th minute, when Gill cut inside from the left before curling a shot to the back post but Roberts saved it at full stretch.

Lower Breck retaliated with a half chance of their own, as Daniel Lowey found a yard of space in the box before dragging his shot wide in the 30th minute.

Gill had the chance to grab his second goal in the 34th minute after Josh Briggs fizzed a ball into the near post, but the goalscorer scooped it over the bar from close range.

Lower Breck’s best chance of the half came in the 42nd minute when Lewis Buckley finessed a shot towards the top left corner but Zac Hadi emphatically tipped it over the bar.

The game’s intensity only increased in the second half with an early chance for the visitors in the 49th minute. Danny Wilkins thundered a loose ball just wide of the post from the edge of the area.

Clitheroe had a strong case for a penalty in the 64th minute as Gill was brought down in the area - referee Joseph Hind waved it off.

Briggs had a golden opportunity to give the blues a two-goal lead after he fired a venomous shot towards the Lower Breck goal. Roberts reacted well and got a strong hand to it in the 78th minute.

Lower Breck managed an equaliser late on in the 83rd minute after a deep cross fell to Lowey, whose first time effort beat Hadi at the far post.

Following the equaliser, Sean McConville was shown red after protesting a refereeing decision in the build-up to the goal.

With their goal, Lower Breck piled on the pressure in the last five minutes. However, Hadi denied their pressure making a great save and preventing Elliott Hughes’ shot in the 86th minute to see both sides share a point.
