Middlesbrough have confirmed the departure of manager Rob Edwards to take over at Premier League club Wolves.

Edwards arrived at the Riverside Stadium in the summer, replacing Michael Carrick, and oversaw a strong start to the campaign.

However, he was absent from the dugout against Birmingham last weekend after being granted permission to speak with Wolves.

The move has now been confirmed and Adi Viveash will remain in interim charge while the club searches for Edwards’ successor.

A statement read: “Middlesbrough FC can confirm that Rob Edwards has now officially resigned his post as head coach after agreeing a contract with Wolves.

“Rob had signed a three-year contract with ourselves during the summer, but after he made it clear he was keen to join Wolves, we reluctantly agreed a figure of compensation for both himself and one of his first team coaches, Harry Watling.”

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “I know Rob very well and I have seen his growth in different jobs.

“He’s a very good person, he knows the club very well, he knows the city, the fans and he is very talented.

“When he was a youth coach here, he showed his tactical awareness, but after he took first-team jobs he started to grow his own identity, character and leadership.

“We need to refresh the whole club with a new coach’s philosophy, bringing his own identity and ideas, and we can build on that. We are at a new chapter for the club and Rob will be a key piece of that.”

Meanwhile, former Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is reportedly in the running for the Norwich City job.

Liam Manning was sacked at the weekend following a seventh successive home defeat, which left the Canaries in the drop zone.

Tomasson has been interviewed this week and is among the contenders to take over at Carrow Road, according to our sister paper Pink Un.

The likes of Gary O’Neil and Will Still have also been linked as Norwich aim to bounce back from a poor start to the campaign.
